IDEGO

“In its relation to the Id, the Ego is like a man on horseback,
continually struggling to hold in check the superior power
of the beast beneath.”

According to Freud, the unconscious is made up of the Id and the Ego.
The Id represents primitive drives and unfettered appetites. The Ego
represents the intellect and reason. The two are forever in conflict as
the Ego attempts to impose sober reality upon the Id’s unrestrained
pursuit of pleasure.

The Idego chair gives form to Freud's theories. The chair’s dark-toned
mahogany base represents the primal Id. Its light-toned maple seat
represents the rational Ego. And its rocking movement enacts our
struggle to maintain balance between the two.
